BEWITCH
09.26.02 Release / TECI-1033 / 2,900Yen / 12 Tracks

Youjeen’s 2nd, and last Japanese-released album is fairly different from The Doll...for one, Youjeen screams bloody murder a lot less, and tones down her entire performance a notch, bringing her back into the less angry J-Rock realm.

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS : 7/10
If you want to know really quick if this album is any good.....the answer is yes...it is good, but only good if you are dying to listen to other tracks from Youjeen after listening to
The Doll.  Compared to The Doll, BEWITCH doesn’t hold a candle to it overall....which is unfortunate.  But, don’t let that stop you from enjoying more of Youjeen’s voice - just don’t expect the harsh vocals from The Doll to carry over into this album.

The other main thing about this album is that there are some obvious tracks which have heavy pop overtones (such as Daydreamin’ and Made In Corea), which is really not too surprising since she went back to Cherry Filter shortly after this album and they have a heavy pop influence.

HOOK FACTOR : 6/10
The "Hook Factor" is basically how many songs on the album that make me want to rock out and start head banging.  As you can see by the score, there wasn’t as many songs on this album that really got me moving.  Vanishing is probably my favorite track and I’d give that song a 10/10, and there are others such as Dear My Friend, Be Bad!! and Sacrification which are good, but not dark like the tracks in
The Doll.

CD Artwork/Packaging : N/A

VOCALS : 7/10
Compared to Youjeen’s first album, she really has changed here. She explores ligher-pop melodies in a few of her songs (Daydreamin’ & Made in Corea), has a few really slow ballads which seem out-of-place (My Treasure, and Sacrification..but only for the first half of the song), and the rest are more a mix of rock songs that overall lack the darkness of Youjeen’s first album.  It is still good stuff however, but prepare yourself for the change.

MIXING : 10/10
The mixing of BEWITCH is great - no problems with sound levels here.
